HeroEngine Art Pipeline 2015.1
- This page contains the Hero Tools scripts for the art packages, Autodesk Max and Maya for use with HeroEngine Quartz.

Autodesk Max versions supported: Autodesk® 3ds Max® 2013, 2014, and 2015; 64 bit only.
Autodesk Maya versions supported: Autodesk® Maya® 2013, 2014, and 2015; 64 bit only.
The HeroEngine Art Pipeline is a collection of scripts which must be run on Autodesk Maya (Maya) and Autodesk 3ds Max (Max). The scripts will configure 3ds Max and Maya for a special set of menus and applications which can be used to export art for use in HeroEngine.

Updates and Changes
- Added Max and Maya 2015 support.
- Removed Max and Maya 2012.
- Changed exporter name suffix from "amd64" to "x64".
- Script fixes for Max 2015 - Fixed the "skinning check" on export to properly interface with Max's "skinOps" functionality.
- Updated Maya HeroMaterial shader plugins for improved performance and better viewport2.0 support.
Note: Due to an incorrect string in the Max installers, the pipeline files may install as 2014.3 instead of 2015.1. This is simply a naming difference and you will still have the correct, up-to-date pipeline files.
- NOTE For developers using 3ds Max, we now provide an installer for the art pipeline which will take care of the install and setup process. Please Refer to your downloads page at account.heroengine.com and download the correct version.
For Developers using Maya, you may need to also install the Visual C++ 2013 redistributable which can be found here: VC2013 Download
The HeroEngine is a ZIP file. Once expanded, it creates the following folder structure:
Where to put the folders
You have two options:
1. Put this folder structure somewhere on a network that all artists' workstations can access. This ensures that when new versions of these tools are released, a single location will ensure everyone is using the updated tools.
2. If you can not offer a network solution, you might want to install them on each artist workstation's local hard drive. This is fine too, but will require more care when updating to ensure everyone is using the correct set of tools.

- Please use the provided version of our 3ds Max Art pipeline installer for your year and version of 3ds Max. These are available on your account page at account.heroengine.com.
- UPDATE! Please note that the
userSetup.melfile is included and can conflict with preexsiting personal userSetup files. Change the
.melfile extention to
.off, then copy the contents from the
userSetup.x64file to your own
userSetup.melto prevent new users from experiencing conflicts.
- Copy and Paste the folders from the unzipped HeroEngineArtPipeline and say yes to Override to ensure all files are updated.
File Path Limitations
IMPORTANT: ALWAYS EXPORT TO LOCAL OR MAPPED DRIVES!
IMPORTANT: Command line programs do not work with UNC paths []. If you export to a network server, you cannot use UNC paths like
\\journey\art\myexportplace\. You must use Windows to map a drive letter to the server, e.g.: map
If you try to export to a UNC path instead of a local or mapped network drive, the preprocessor will fail! This is a limitation of the Window's command line.
Note: DO NOT uses spaces in the path or filename. This is also a limitation of the command line batch file and preprocessing commands. The exporter will check for this and cancel an export if it detects a space anywhere in the filepath.
Note: The Art Hero Tools can be setup in Max and Maya using network paths.
